I Create Lab- Day One!

 I-Create Lab- Introduction

The I-Create Lab tour opened my eyes to the many different technologies available to us. Inside of the library, the I-Create Lab allows for checking out items for hours at a time, even to renting a unit for days. They offer different recorders/ cameras, projectors and tripod systems.

Students are able  to experience a wide variety of technologies available in the lab, which allow for multiple designs to save as reference. Becoming familiar with the different stations in the lab does include some trialing and troubleshooting, but it's a learning process to be able to create something yourself.

Some of these machines provide great opportunities when personalizing classroom materials and activities. If the machines are limited to only your access, that doesn't have to limit the ability to be able to share the experience with your students by filming the process and revealing the result.

Today's Experience

This was my first time being in the I-create lab, along with exploring. It's funny to think I've been to the library many times, even right near where the lab is located and I never really knew the opportunities just waiting behind the door. We were allowed to tour each of the different machines that the lab holds, the first was a sticker machine that can even print out large banner style posters.

I'm from a very small school district, so technology wasn't a wide commodity for me growing up. However, we did have a lot of agriculture and with that welding which I noticed a few machines that reminded me of projects we also offered teaching for. For example, we saw a machine that's able to carve into wood. Another was a type of soldering machine and also a laser engraver for glass and vinyl-lined cups.

With this, I saw some awesome machines that could come in handy for pretty much any time you have a project. There is an available basic sewing machine but also a higher tech engraving machine. Along with a machine that can cut iron on stickers or normal paper.

  1. Hello,

The blog looks very nice. The pictures are very useful in visualizing what occurred. I would like to see a couple more ISTE standards associated and defined. You have great CT knowledge listed, so you just need to find some that match your experience or that could apply when there.

  2. I like the inclusion of pictures. A suggestion would be to label or add titles to the pictures, so people can better identify the machines discussed in your blog. Additionally, from the blog it seems that you could add ISTE standard 1e. Overall, great job!
